Professional Bio
Melodie Kolmetz has been a member of the Emergency Medical Services Community in the Western New York area for over 30 years, serving in numerous leadership and educational positions in fire and EMS organizations at the local, state, and national levels.
In addition to her work in EMS, Melodie practices as a PA with the University of Rochester Geriatrics Group in skilled and long-term care, where she is focused on delivering high-quality care, respecting residents’ advance directives, and treating in place when possible. She also works part-time in Occupational Medicine, serving her local fire and EMS community.
A Medical Type Person was born many years ago when she first became a PA. At that time, she was working as a PA and serving as a volunteer firefighter/EMT. The PA concept was relatively new, so one of her firehouse friends would preface every question he asked with "Since you're one of those medical type people..."
Melodie loves medicine, education, and technology. She is currently serving as the chair of the National Association of Mobile Integrated Healthcare Providers (NAMIHP) Media and Publications Committee.
Melodie is a 1995 graduate of the PA program at Rochester Institute of Technology, she received a Master’s Degree in Physician Assistant Studies with a concentration in PA Education from the University of Nebraska Medical Center in 2015, and she is currently writing her dissertation for a doctoral degree in education with a focus on accreditation and process improvement at the Graduate School of Education at the University at Buffalo.
In her spare time, she enjoys attending her sons’ athletic events. She is passionate about community service, life-long learning, and mentorship/sponsorship.
